Analogies, Similes and Metaphors: You Have the Right Brain for This! sponsored by the Friends of the
Monday, March 206:30—8:00 PMMcAllaster RoomBedford Public Library3 Meetinghouse Road, Bedford, NH, 03110
This class will open us up to new ideas and creative solutions, primarily in the way we assemble those ideas and relate our words. We will play with words and their associations. We will review research that reveals the importance of associative memory. The class is action-based; we will build metaphorical models, sashay into analogies, and smile through the similes.
All classes benefit from refreshments and our refreshments will consist of puns. Now, It has been said that the pun is the lowest form of humor and I disagree. We can’t “get” a pun without a pretty firm grasp of the context, broader associations and certain so-called higher thinking skills. If you choose to join us, feel free to bring along some of your most awful (favorite) puns.
A confession: I was addicted to the hokey pokey... but thankfully, I turned myself around.
Recommended for people of high school age and older.
Presenter: Jo Hendry, retired educator, formerly Curriculum Coordinator for Math and Science, K-8, Bedford Public Schools. Serves on Board of Directors of SEE Science Center. Active volunteer for OLLI and the Dunbarton Garden Club.
