NH Humanities Perspectives Book Group: Peyton Place
Friday, August 163:00—4:30 PMMcAllaster RoomBedford Public Library3 Meetinghouse Road, Bedford, NH, 03110
Join us for an in-person discussion of the book Peyton Place by Grace Metalious, facilitated by New Hampshire Humanities presenter Tammi J. Truax, as part of New Hampshire Humanities Perspectives Book Groups. First published in 1956, Peyton Place uncovers the passions, lies and cruelties that simmer beneath the surface of a postcard-perfect town. At the centre of the novel are three women, each with a secret to hide: Constance MacKenzie, the original desperate housewife; her daughter Allison, whose dreams are stifled by small-town small-mindedness; and Selena Cross, her gypsy-eyed friend from the wrong side of the tracks.
Copies of the book are available at the reference desk and will be yours to keep. Registration is required to ensure we have enough copies of the book for everyone.
Tammi Truax is a writer and a teacher and currently works as an elementary school teacher librarian, and sometimes as a Sankofa Scholar for the NH Black Heritage Trail. She completed graduate work in Italy and the U.S., earning a M.Ed. in library media studies. She has served as the Maine Beat Poet Laureate for 2018-2020, and the Portsmouth (NH) Poet Laureate for 2019-2022.
This program is made possible by a grant from New Hampshire Humanities.
